Last February, Google announced that it would review all Google Play Store apps that request the use of location permissions in the background or will be removed from the store, in addition to some other restrictions imposed on developers and included in Android 10 and 11, Google said that the process will not take time. For a long time, it will end on November 2, and after a period of time, Google published a new update in its developer blog informing that the review policy is still in effect, and Google will have to review all these applications before the deadline between January 18 and March 29, 2021 .
The ability to access the geolocation in the background is necessary for some applications such as maps to function, for example, but according to Google, many applications that exploit this power do not really need it. In addition, access to the geographical location of users helps harmful applications and some software development tools. (SDK) to generate income, collect information about users, and sell them in bad faith. For this reason, Google has asked developers to fill out a form describing in detail why they need to run the site in the background. This includes creating a short video explaining the process. Without the video, developers will not get approval from Google.
Indeed, Google has implemented its plan starting from the date of August 3, 2020, as it was agreed to grant approval for all new applications that need to run location permissions in the background with the reason being mentioned before the deadline which is November 2 of the same year, and on this date Google I hope that all the apps published on the Play Store have passed the aforementioned review, however, Google decided to give some extra time for developers until January 18, 2021, to fill out and submit the form.
